They're Talking on Campus...

. . . About soaring salaries for the nation's CEOs. The average U.S. corporate chief executive officer's yearly compensation in 1999—$11.9 million—was 476 times that of the average blue collar wage, notes the AFL-CIO's Executive Pay Watch Web site: www.paywatch.org.

The Web site lists CEO pay at 1,500 of the nation's largest corporations and provides interactive tools to help users compare their pay with the boss's.

Executive Pay Watch also offers action tools to those who want to complain about runaway salaries to company boards.

. . . About a new National Center for Education Statistics Web site—College Opportunities On-Line—that provides direct information on U.S. colleges, universities and career schools.

The site's purpose: Simplify the college search and decision process for students. This site offers information not available on most commercial sites, including data for more than 9,000 public, private, two- and four-year institutions. Visit the site at: www.nces.ed.gov/ipeds/cool.

. . . About a web site, sponsored by the AFL-CIO, the National Association of Manufacturers, and other groups, geared to helping adult learners prepare and pay for college.

This Web site—www.collegeispossible.org/adults/adults.htm—is part of the "College is Possible" project, created in response to a report from the 21st Century Skills Leadership Group.
