Transformation
Recent emphasis on the more utilitarian aspects of higher education have led many to downplay the significance of what many educators believe is our primary role: opening our students to the life of the mind.

In this month's Thriving in Academe, our authors present their findings on the professoriate's attitude toward education that transforms lives.

Community College Professor of the Year is a California NEA Member.
Clarence Romero, associate professor of psychology at Riverside Community College, spearheaded Latino Educators of Tomorrow, a program that encourages students to overcome mental and physical barriers, to set personal goals, and accept responsibilities. He is a member of the California Community College Association.
