Adjusting to Change
Traditional college students—those in the 18 to 22 age range—have been joined by a new cohort of students of different ages and backgrounds, and with different goals for their education. How can professors organize their classes so that all students learn? This issue of Thriving in Academe advises instructors to consider integrating training methods into their traditional approaches.
Adjunct faculty members at Prairie State College Celebrate Union Victory
Shortly after 9 p.m. on February 16, after two days of voting, adjunct activists at Prairie State College in Chicago Heights, Illinois, prevailed and won their representation election by a better than 2-to1 margin. The Prairie State College Adjunct Instructors United faced an especially difficult challenge in winning this campaign because their election—originally scheduled for late October—was postponed twice.
