. . . About Campus Equity Week. In late October through early November 2005, the nation's contingent faculty will conduct coordinated activities on campuses throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico to educate campus communities, the public and policymakers about academic employment issues of fairness and quality of education. October 24-29 has been set for the activities across Canada while October 31-November 4 will see actions in support of higher education fair employment in the United States.
. . .About the increasing number of part-time faculty being hired by the nation's colleges and universities. The National Center for Education Statistics reports that while colleges and universities employed 60,000 more faculty members in 2003 than in 2001, full-time faculty growth rate was only 2 percent as compared to 10 percent for adjuncts. The ratio of full-time to part-time faculty now is nearing 50-50.
The NCES survey also found that the number of faculty working at for-profit institutions increased to nearly 52,000 in 2003 from 36,000 in 2001.
