Thriving in Academe graphicService Learning

Service learning is an increasingly familiar practice at many of the nation’s colleges and universities. But there continues to be uncertainty about what service learning actually is—and more importantly, how it is done correctly. This month’s Thriving in Academe looks at balancing the educational needs of students with the practical needs of the community in creating service learning projects that work for everyone.

Members of the California Faculty Association, supported by students and staff, demonstrated at campuses across the  state in March, calling on California State University camps presidents to tell the CSU Board of Trustees and the chancellor to address faculty, staff and student concerns with workload, tenure-track hiring and retention, salaries, job security, retirement, and badly needed resources for the university.
