... about a U.S. Supreme Court decision that states do not violate the Constitution when they cancel public university professors' rights to negotiate workload rules as part of their union contracts.

The Court set aside an Ohio court ruling that had invalidated a law enacted to ensure the state's professors spend more time in the classroom.

... about a union victory for graduate assistants at UCLA. The University of California said it would honor the election results and negotiate with the teaching assistants, ending a 16-year battle.

... about an Education Testing Service report that finds teachers scored significantly higher than the general population in literacy skills, on average 58 points higher on a 500-point scale.

The report confirms that teachers have literacy skills comparable to professions that pay much higher salaries, including physicians, lawyers, and engineers.
