Help for Local Web Pages

NEA higher education local affiliates can now build their own Web pages.
NEA has developed cyber templates that local affiliates can use to help keep NEA higher education members informed about issues and benefits.

Everything a local needs to get started in cyberspace is now available from the NEA higher education Web site, located at www.nea.org/he

The NEA higher ed Web site has been receiving hundreds of hits since the publication of What's the Difference? A Review of the Contemporary Research on the Effectiveness of Distance Learning in Higher Education.

You can access the study, commissioned jointly by NEA and the American Federation of Teachers and conducted by the Institute for Higher Education Policy, on the Web site or E-mail your address to HigherEd@nea.org for a free copy.

President Clinton has appointed NEA National Council for Higher Education President Roger Knutsen of Washington State's Green River Community College to the 21st Century Workforce Commission.

The commission is intended to promote cooperation among federal, state, and local governments, business, the education community, and labor. The specific goal: to increase the number of individuals with the skills necessary to enter the relatively well-paid technology-based job market.

Knutsen is one of five commission members appointed by President Clinton.

It's not too late to apply for a position on the Thought & Action Review Panel.
Two positions are currently open for next year on the member panel that referees the content of the NEA higher education journal. The positions are for three-year terms beginning this fall.

The NEA Professional Library, publisher of professional development books for educators at all levels, has opened shop in cyberspace.

The Web site includes a special section on higher education, with books on technology, getting published, and other topics. At the site, you can place your order electronically, shop for gifts for family and friends in education, and even read the text of selected books online.
