. . . about a federal appeals court ruling that protects
the intellectual property rights of freelance writers and extends
standard principles of copyright law to electronic publishing.
The ruling, in a case brought by the National Writers
Union--Tasini vs. The New York Times, is expected to send shock
waves through the media industry, now facing the threat of
copyright infringement actions, brought by writers.
On the basis of the court's decision, the writers union has
called on the publishing industry to negotiate a fair method of
compensation for the electronic sale and re-sale of copyrighted

The College Board, which oversees the SAT, has announced that it
is redefining its mission to focus largely on preparing students
for college.
The Princeton Review, used by many students to prepare for the
