The ruling, in a case brought by the National Writers Union--Tasini vs. The New York Times, is expected to send shock waves through the media industry, now facing the threat of copyright infringement actions, brought by writers.

On the basis of the court's decision, the writers union has called on the publishing industry to negotiate a fair method of compensation for the electronic sale and re-sale of copyrighted works. More info at: www.nwu.org

. . . about the declining influence of the Scholastic Assessment Test in college admissions.

The College Board, which oversees the SAT, has announced that it is redefining its mission to focus largely on preparing students for college.

The Princeton Review, used by many students to prepare for the tests, says the SAT for the most part fails to measure student preparedness for college.

. . . about a new campus computing project report. Technology officials from 557 colleges and universities find helping reluctant faculty members incorporate technology in their teaching is the hardest part of their job. Summaries of the report at www.campus computing.net.
