On the Road with Rachel HendricksonRachel Hendrickson

I just returned from the NEA Higher Education Conference, the largest one we've held.

As I watched the participants heading into their sessions, I wondered if they knew how such a conference comes to fruition. The answer is, with a lot of help from many of the participants there.

The NEA Membership Advisory Committee is responsible for advising NEA higher education staff on themes and topics for the conference and for monitoring its progress and evaluating the outcome.

This year, two K-12 teacher members on that committee came to the conference to assist their higher education colleagues. Conference-goers may have noticed them working behind the registration desk and even moderating a session.

These two teachers represented the synergy that comes when all parts of the education community work together to create a quality product.

During the conference, we looked at what might happen with educators, management, and community working together to create quality.

Teamwork!

Those colleagues helping with the hard work of the conference modeled that lesson.

Rachel Hendrickson is an NEA higher education coordinator.
