… about a $250,000 grant from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation to the California Virtual University.
The Virtual University is a joint project of the University of California, the California State University, the California Community Colleges, and the state's independent colleges and universities that ties together into a single Internet-based catalog the online course offerings of California's colleges and universities.
… about a United Nations survey that finds the United States is one of only six countries without a paid maternity leave policy.
The UN surveyed 152 developed and developing countries. In most of them, either employer plans or social welfare systems provide the benefits. In the United States, the Family and Medical Leave Act provides for 12 weeks of unpaid maternity leave. The International Labour Organization conducted the survey.
