NEA and Higher Education: Policies and Programs
Introduction
These pages contain the National Education Association's
policies, procedures, and programs for NEA members in higher education.
The first section, "NEA
and Academe Through the Ages," was first written by Donald J.
Keck, an NEA organizational specialist. It has been recently updated by
Rachel Hendrickson, NEA organizational specialist.
The next three sections of "NEA and Higher
Education" summarize the Association's positions on a variety of
issues important to higher education.
NEA Policy Statements
are elaborations of existing NEA policy resolutions as adopted by the
NEA Representative Assembly over the years. Policy issues included in
this section range from access and curriculum reform to faculty evaluation
and community college government.
NEA Resolutions and
Legislative Program include the Association's
positions on higher education as established by resolutions—expressions
of the Association's goals—and by NEA's legislative program.
NEA Joint Statements
includes three pieces--"Minority Mentoring," "A Common
Economic and Social Policy", and "Financial Crisis in Higher
Education"--all jointly developed with other national and international
organizations dedicated to improving the state of higher education.
The last sections contain information on the "NEA
Higher Education Program," including brief descriptions of the
services provided to NEA higher education members.
