F-1. Nondiscriminatory Personnel Policies/Affirmative
Action
The National Education Association believes that, except
as otherwise provided below, personnel policies and practices must guarantee
that no person be employed, retained, paid, dismissed, suspended, demoted,
transferred, retired, or harassed because of race, color, national origin,
cultural diversity, accent, religious beliefs, residence, physical disability,
political activities, professional association activity, age, size, marital
status, family relationship, gender, or sexual orientation/gender identification.
Affirmative action plans and procedures that encourage
active recruitment and employment of ethnic minorities, women, and persons
with disabilities should be developed and implemented in accordance with
Association policy.Affirmative action plans and procedures that encourage
active recruitment and employment of men in underrepresented education
categories should also be developed and implemented. It may be necessary
therefore to give preference to men in recruitment, hiring, retention,
and promotion policies to overcome past discrimination. (1969, 2002)
