G-4. Accreditation in Higher Education
The National Education Association supports strong regional,
state, national, and discipline-based accrediting bodies that promote
and encourage faculty participation in the accrediting process. The Association
believes that programs, faculties, administrations, and facilities should
be reviewed to determine their ability to enhance learning opportunities
for students. The Association also believes that accrediting agencies
should not impose standardized curricula, assessment models, or pedagogical
methods on institutions of higher education but rather should base accreditation
on standards as applied to the institutional mission statement. (1995,
1998)
